With the pending release of the new AS9100 standard in April 2016, it might be wise for Aviation, Space, and Defense Organizations to hold off on making the transition to ISO 9001:2015 right away.
The new ISO 9001:2015 has many differences from the previous version, and thus some requirements have been removed or altered. Making the transition early might put your quality system in violation of the current AS9100C.
You might think it would be sensible to get a head start, especially because the timeframe to transition to the new AS9100 standard will be shorter. The transition period will follow the same time frame that ISO 9001:2015 follows. This means that the transition time is shortened by at least half a year with the new AS9100 standard scheduled to be released in the second quarter of 2016.
It is still a good idea to start thinking about the transition and preparing for it, but before making any key changes, ensure that you are making the right decisions for your quality system.
