Drawing on the theme “Management of Change”, Miriam and other speakers provided invaluable resources about the need to adapt and the tools that companies can use to ensure that everyone is involved in the change.
Miriam recognized however, that in terms of quality, Mexico and specifically the maquiladoras or manufacturing facilities near the US border, have been at the forefront of quality concepts for quite a long time.
“When you go into these enormous facilities, you see, feel and breathe quality, from the top executive to the last operator in the shop. These companies see quality as a way of surviving and therefore there is no other option. Of course, the level of manpower greatly surpasses the typical staffing rates seen in the US. However, aside from the manpower efficiency ratio, the quality mindset and quality consciousness is in many cases, something to applaud.”
Miriam’s speech was delivered in Spanish to quality conscious attendees and students from the region.
