Build the system—and the internal audit capability needed to keep it effective. This practical course combines ISO 14001:2026 and ISO 45001:2018 implementation with Internal Auditing Techniques based on ISO 19011 guidance. Participants learn to integrate environmental and OH&S requirements, evaluate objective evidence, report defensible findings, and use audit results to strengthen compliance, performance, and certification readiness.

Description

Organizations often inherit separate environmental and OH&S processes that duplicate work, obscure ownership, and make performance harder to evaluate. This course shows how to build one coordinated management system without weakening the distinct controls required by either discipline.

Participants work through the implementation decisions that matter: what can be integrated, what must remain specific, how to assign ownership, and how to turn environmental aspects, hazards, compliance obligations, risks, and performance data into priorities and controls.

Built on Mireaux’s proven experience implementing and auditing management systems, this course covers:

  1. What the standards require
  2. How to implement them practically
  3. How to evaluate conformity and effectiveness through internal audits

All while drawing clear comparisons and intersections between the two standards.

The course then develops the practical auditing skills needed to evaluate whether that system is working. Using a continuing case study, workshops, learning checkpoints, and realistic audit scenarios, participants plan and conduct audits, collect and evaluate objective evidence, interview personnel, write defensible findings, and report conclusions that support correction and continual improvement.

The result is both an implementation roadmap and a practical foundation for auditing an integrated environmental and OH&S management system.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Map the shared and distinct requirements of ISO 14001:2026 and ISO 45001:2018 into one practical implementation plan.
  • Design integrated processes, responsibilities, and records that reduce duplication without weakening environmental or OH&S controls.
  • Turn environmental aspects, hazards, compliance obligations, and risks and opportunities into priorities, controls, and measurable objectives.
  • Build leadership accountability and worker consultation and participation into management system decisions.
  • Connect operational controls, emergency preparedness, performance data, audits, and management review to timely action.
  • Apply auditing principles and support a risk-based internal audit program, including auditor competence, objectivity, and independence.
  • Prepare audit plans, agendas, checklists, and audit trails that focus on significant risks and management system performance.
  • Conduct opening meetings, interviews, evidence collection, and closing meetings professionally.
  • Write clear, evidence-based findings and concise audit reports, and evaluate follow-up evidence for effective closure.
  • Evaluate implementation and audit results to identify remaining gaps and support certification readiness and continual improvement.

Prerequisites

No formal prerequisite is required. Basic familiarity with your organization’s operations, environmental responsibilities, workplace hazards, or management system processes is helpful.

Mireaux recommends the Advanced Document Control course—or equivalent management-system experience—to gain an understanding of the basic requirements of management systems before attending.
