Description

Organizations need more than knowledge of API Q1 requirements. They need personnel who can translate those requirements into effective processes and independently evaluate whether the QMS is working.

This course combines API Q1 implementation with practical internal auditing techniques. Participants first examine how API Specification Q1, 10th Edition, applies across leadership, resources, product realization, risk, suppliers, measurement, corrective action, and improvement. They then use a continuing industry case study and realistic audit exercises to turn those requirements into audit criteria, evidence trails, interviews, findings, and meaningful reports.

Built on Mireaux’s proven experience implementing and auditing API quality management systems, this course covers:

  1. What API Q1 requires
  2. How to implement the requirements practically
  3. How to evaluate conformity and effectiveness through internal audits

Guided by ISO 19011:2026, the auditing portion develops the skills needed to plan and conduct process-based audits, maintain objectivity, collect and evaluate objective evidence, write defensible nonconformities, communicate conclusions, and follow up on corrective actions.

The result is both an API Q1 implementation roadmap and a practical foundation for auditing a petroleum and natural gas industry QMS.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the intent of API Specification Q1, 10th Edition, and how its requirements work together as a quality management system.
  • Translate API Q1 requirements into practical processes, responsibilities, controls, documented information, and records.
  • Apply risk-based thinking and product-realization controls to protect product conformity and customer requirements.
  • Apply ISO 19011:2026 auditing principles to plan a risk-based internal audit program and prepare audit plans, agendas, checklists, and audit trails using API Q1 criteria.
  • Conduct opening meetings, interviews, evidence collection, and closing meetings professionally.
  • Evaluate objective evidence and write clear, defensible findings and nonconformities.
  • Prepare concise audit reports and evaluate follow-up evidence for effective closure.
  • Use implementation and audit results to prioritize corrective action, management review, and continual improvement.

Prerequisites

Participants should have work experience in quality, operations, engineering, manufacturing, inspection, supply chain, or management, with a working familiarity with quality management system concepts. Prior internal auditing experience is helpful but not required. Those new to QMS concepts should complete an introductory quality or document control course first.
