Description

An effective ISO 45001 internal auditor needs more than a checklist. Auditors must understand how the OH&S management system should work, recognize the evidence that demonstrates implementation, and evaluate whether processes are conforming, effective, and improving.

This course combines comprehensive ISO 45001 implementation instruction with practical Internal Auditing Techniques. Participants connect requirements to organizational context, worker consultation and participation, hazards, legal and other requirements, OH&S risks and opportunities, objectives, operational controls, emergency preparedness, performance evaluation, incident investigation, corrective action, and continual improvement.

Built on Mireaux’s proven experience implementing and auditing management systems, this course covers:

  • What ISO 45001 requires
  • How to implement the requirements practically
  • How to evaluate conformity and effectiveness through internal audits

Guided by ISO 19011:2026, participants learn to support a risk-based audit program, prepare audit plans and trails, conduct opening and closing meetings, interview personnel, sample records, evaluate objective evidence, and write clear, defensible findings. Realistic case studies, workshops, Learning Checkpoints, and audit scenarios build confidence in applying these skills.

Participants leave with both an ISO 45001 implementation roadmap and a practical auditing framework for assessing process performance, communicating meaningful conclusions, following up on corrective actions, and helping their organization strengthen worker protection, compliance, certification readiness, and continual improvement.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the intent, structure, and connected requirements of ISO 45001:2018.
  • Translate ISO 45001 requirements into practical responsibilities, controls, documented information, and objective evidence.
  • Evaluate worker consultation and participation, hazard identification, OH&S risk planning, legal and other requirements, operational controls, performance evaluation, and improvement.
  • Apply ISO 19011:2026 auditing principles to support a risk-based internal audit program and maintain auditor objectivity and independence.
  • Prepare audit plans, agendas, checklists, sampling approaches, and audit trails focused on significant OH&S risks and process performance.
  • Conduct opening meetings, interviews, evidence collection, and closing meetings professionally.
  • Evaluate objective evidence and distinguish conformity, nonconformity, observations, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Write clear, evidence-based nonconformities and concise audit reports that support action.
  • Evaluate correction, corrective action, and follow-up evidence for effective closure and continual improvement.

Prerequisites

No formal prerequisite is required. Familiarity with workplace operations, hazards, safety responsibilities, or management system processes is helpful.

Mireaux recommends the Advanced Document Control course or equivalent management-system experience before attending. Prior internal auditing experience is helpful but not required.
